Hi Sarah! I recently reread My Fair Lady and I wanted to thank you for the Jewish rep. I can’t tell you how much it meant to me with everything that’s been going on. <3

❤ You’re so welcome. I was thinking about this the other night, actually. I’m struggling right now with feelings of frustration and helplessness, but if my writing can be a comfort to people, then I know I’m helping, just a little bit. I promise I’ll continue to be inclusive in my writing, because heaven knows the world seems to be having a problem with that right now.

Please tell me you won’t add Russian language to your story… I’m Russian and when I see US or UK authors using my language for the sake of “exoticy” it makes me feel uncomfortable. People can write the story about Russians without using Russian, inserting it like it’s so wow or something – especially in fantasy setting. When we’re writing English characters we don’t randomly make them use the language, it makes no sense. (“Hunted” by Spooner is Russian done good btw – the names but no languag)

I definitely understand where you’re coming from. I don’t currently have plans to include Russian in the book series I’m working on. My technique when drawing inspiration from real-world languages is to generally use names and such, but not to have people speak full sentences in it (I think I have one example of someone actually speaking Romanian to ask if another character speaks the language, and that’s once in four books so far). I’ll defend my decision to use real-world languages because I did not have the skillset available to me to create several con-langs, so I’m drawing on my long study of languages and (briefer) study of historical linguistics to guide my use of real-world languages (which are called by different names and again, not used in full phrases). And I also regularly check with native speakers of those languages to make sure I’m using the right forms of words in appropriate contexts.

I also make sure to use cultural elements because I don’t think language should be separated from its culture. It just rubs me the wrong way. I definitely agree that it’s silly when people want to use foreign language to make their characters more ~exotic~ because that’s not what languages are. They greatly inform someone’s worldview and lifestyle and shouldn’t be treated as decoration.

I did make a post a little while ago about how I had used some Russian in a fanfiction, and this was in a Modern AU fic, part of which was set in Russia. Now that I know some of the language, I can go back and flinch at my earlier attempts to include it (transliterated Russian is just … bad). I’ll probably go back and edit it now. Thanks for your message!

Hey, Sarah! May I just say that I love that you’re doing an audiobook for My Fair Warrior? It’s such a great story, and I didn’t need an excuse to re-read it, but now I have one–so thank you! You’re a fantastic narrator, and your voice is really pretty :)

Awww, thank you so much! I had so much fun doing the ACOWAS one, and I thought it would be nice to do one for my second-longest fic. I’m happy you’re enjoying it, and you’re so sweet!

I just wantes to say that I loved my fair warrior and all the thought you put into it! Still trying to cope with this acomaf hangover even though it’s been months, you’re definitely helping with your amazing fics 😘

Oh my, aren’t we all? Only 5 months left to ACOWAR! I’m glad my fics help a bit, but I promising they’re just as much a coping mechanism for me as anyone else! XD

Girl. You have slayed the writing game once again. I just finished MFW, and while I am so so sad to see it end, you perfectly tied up any loose ends and and the whole series in general was just written so so well, thank you so much for the series, it was such a wonderful journey and I just love all the detail you put in, it really made the story feel real.

Thank you so very much! Now I have a big smile on my face to start my day! ❤ ❤ ❤ I’m so happy you enjoyed the details, because I had a lot of fun researching and including them. I wouldn’t put it past me to write other Modern AU one-shots in the same universe down the line, but I definitely need a little break while I start the new school semester. Thanks so much for the note–it means a lot!

❤❤❤❤❤❤My fair warrior was beautiful, and it was such an awesome experience to see how you interpreted acomaf into the real world. You did it so well! I can’t wait to read what you give us next :)

Thank you! Definitely stay tuned … next up will be the giveaway fic and then who knows, after that?

That ending to mfw was honestly the best, I feel the same that the Hybern scene and all is v v v hard to translate into a Modern AU (I was enchanted by your replacement for the Suriel and The Weaver) and it was just perfection 10/10 would recommend honestly tysm u r a gift to the world

Thank you so much! I’m really happy you liked it! ❤ ❤ ❤ I so appreciate your kind messages and your reading! You’re the best!

Thank you so much for putting stuff about safe sex into that last chapter. I’m kind of embarrassed to ask this but what’s a damn and how does it work?

You’re welcome! TBH, I was kind of inspired by @propshophannah‘s safe sex guide that she wrote to dispel some of the myths about the sex we read in SJM’s (and others’) fiction. There was no excuse for me not to take that into account, especially in a Modern AU!

A dental dam is just a thin piece of latex that is held over the vagina or anus as a barrier between the mouth and respective body parts/fluids. You can hold it in place but apparently harnesses also exist? I’ve never used one but read up on them for the fic. A dam helps protect against bacteria/STDs. You can buy them prepared or make one out of a condom. It’s especially good to use one if you and your partner haven’t discussed your sexual histories in detail and you just want to be extra safe. Since Feyre and Rhys didn’t have that conversation, I figured it would be good to have them use one!
