Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag!

I was tagged by @chaoslaborantin! Thanks, I’ve been meaning to do something like this!

1. Best book you’ve read so far this year:

The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

2. Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2018

Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire (this and Down Among the Sticks and Bones are the only “sequels” I’ve read so far this year).

3. New release you haven’t read yet but want to

Love, Hate & Other Filters by Samira Ahmed; Everless by Sara Holland; and Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne

4. Most anticipated releases of the second-half of the year.

Blanca & Roja by Anna-Marie McLemore; Trail of Lightning by Rebecca Roanhorse; and A Blade So Black by L.L. McKinney

5. Biggest disappointment

Absolutely Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I was optimistic going in, but I was hopping mad by the end of the book. I was also really sad that I didn’t like Wintersong, because it had so many things about it that I should have liked, but it wasn’t clicking for me.

6. Biggest Surprise

Caraval by Stephanie Garber! I’d heard such mixed things about this book that I really didn’t plan to like it, but I enjoyed it a lot!

7. Newest Favourite Author

Tomi Adeyemi, Jen Hatmaker, and Rin Chupeco (the last two are new-to-me, anyway).

8. Newest Fictional Crush

Mmmmm … . I guess Marco from The Night Circus? but it’s not at the same level as past book-crushes I’ve had.

9. Newest Favourite Character

Inan from Children of Blood and Bone

10. Book that made you cry

Both Burial Rites by Hannah Kent and We Are Okay by Nina LaCour made me tear up big-time.

11. Book that made you happy

Caraval by Stephanie Garber, Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst, and Beneath the Sugar Sky by Seanan McGuire

12. Prettiest book you’ve bought/received this year?

Hands-down The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

13. Books you need to read by the end of the year.

Brightly Burning by Alexa Donne, Wild Beauty by Anna-Marie McLemore, and City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty!

I tag @susannadlpena, @alicia-living-life, @pigeonbooks, @kiarazuri, and @onelaststark!

I didn’t read nearly as much this month as last month, and definitely far less than I expected to! I thought I’d have more time, but the first week of March was crazy busy with grad school and while I was on spring break with @susannadlpena I mostly had adventures and was chilling out giving my brain a break. I still hit my priority reads, though, so I’m still calling it a win! What did you read this month?
